4th Grade News:
With our 4th week under our belt, students are beginning to get more reminders due to the BARK expectations. Please have a conversation with your child about the importance of Being Prepared, Acting Responsibly, Respecting self and others and the job to Keep learning.
IMPORTANT: Students need their OWN headphones for IREADY!!
ELA: Your 4th grade readers are working hard to build a positive team atmosphere. They have created names and set goals for their teams going into next week. They are developing the skill of active listening and cooperation. Also this week, they began their individualized iReady instruction. We’re really looking forward to seeing their growth.
Math: We will be analyzing our unit 1 assessment we took this week. We will reteach those skills if necessary. Hopefully, we will be starting Unit 2.
Science: The learner will be introduced to the new science curriculum and begin Topic 4 - Patterns on Earth: Experience #1 - Fossils and Rock Formations.
SS: Students will begin reviewing map skills by using a compass.

Math: We will spend Monday and Tuesday reviewing for our unit test which will be held on Wednesday. Review packets were given on Friday and will be due Tuesday.
Science: The learner will be introduced to the new new science curriculum and begin Topic 5 - Patterns in Space: Experience #1 - Earth’s Gravitational Forces.
SS: Students will review map skills by using a compass.

6th Grade News:
Our Cooperative Challenge this week was “Use the Peace Path”. Students learned how using the 3 steps in the Peace Path could be helpful with solving conflicts at school as well as home. We also discussed why friends matter and how to be a good friend. Our Cool Kids this week were Camden Roberson, Aubrielle Rhodes, and Gabriel Rancher. We are in need of pencils, hand sanitizer, tissues, and Lysol/Clorox wipes. Students will receive a treat! Thank you for your support!
ELA: We began our first lessons in Savvy Reader this week. Students were placed in teams. They had to brainstorm things they had in common and things that made each teammate unique, then choose a team name. Please make sure they are reading 20 minutes each night and completing their reading logs which are due 9/30. Scholastic Book Orders are due 9/29.
Math: The math test is postponed to next Friday. Please check grades. Students have a weekly homework assignment due every Friday. They can work on it during bulldog time, however many of them are still not turning it in.
Science: We are continuing to learn about different types of energy.
Social Studies: Students are continuing lessons on different forms of government.
7th Grade News:
Five weeks down! This week brought plenty of learning, conversations, teamwork, and opportunities for students to show what they can do.
One thing that has stood out is how much students are beginning to take ownership of their work. They’re asking more questions, sharing their ideas, working through challenges, and learning from one another. These small moments are adding up to a strong start to the school year!

📚 8th Grade Happenings:
We are looking for any veterans who are interested in volunteering to be part of our Veteran’s Day project. Please reach out if interested.
All 8th Grade science students will be taking a quiz on Tuesday!!! All 8th grade Math/Algebra students will be receiving their first assessment back on Monday with corrections as needed. All 8th grade students have starte are continuing to read All Quiet on the Western Front in their Language Arts classes.

Health & PE: Hello STEAMM Academy at Hartford Middle School Families! PE and Health was another good week. In PE, we began our football introduction with Flasketball, Capture the Football, and Cather’s Up. Next week begins our Gaga Ball play and 2-on-2 tournament for the next 2 weeks.

In Health, we continued within Module 1, beginning our next content area, Advocate. This will be 2-3 weeks coverage. Students will be learning concepts in…differentiating between health concepts and advocating for health change, explain how their identity and community experiences drive the need for health equity, and create a health message that uses data and is tailored to a specific audience. Again, as a friendly reminder, any information/news, and updates from the Exploratory Team throughout the school year will be posted in this section of Principal Russell’s “Message from the Principal” via Parentsquare Update.
ART: Grades 4-8 have been learning the basics of photography through the use of the ipad cameras. We have been taking photographs of the world around us through different viewpoints. We have helped the math team use real world examples to find angles around them. While we can brag a few of the photography students scored 90-100% on the quiz Coach Dave created, we have also been taking action shots of our peers to practice up for when we get real cameras in our hands! We will soon be sharing some printed versions of our photos! Look for more to come.

What is Start With Hello?
Social isolation is the overwhelming feeling of being left out, lonely or treated like you are invisible. It is a growing epidemic in the United States and within our schools. Excessive feelings of isolation can be associated with violent and suicidal behavior. In fact, one study reports that chronic loneliness increases our risk of an early death by 14%. Furthermore, young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence and/or depression. As a result, many further pull away from society, struggle with learning and social development and/or choose to hurt themselves or others. Start with Hello teaches students the skills they need to reach out to and include those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation and create a culture of inclusion and connectedness within their school or youth organization.
